Time: 1:30 p.m. / Location: Museum Volkenkunde, Large Auditorium, Steenstraat 1, Leiden
The General Members Meeting has been organized together with the Museum Volkenkunde in Leiden and in compliance with the Covid19 guidelines.
Following the General Members Meeting, Daan Kok, curator of East Asia at the Museum Volkenkunde, will present a talk about the folding screen by the painter Kawahara Keiga (1786–c.1860) that illustrates a view of the port city of Nagasaki. This previously unknown 180-year-old folding screen is unique within Keiga’s oeuvre and was acquired by the Museum in 2018. The SJA donated € 500 to the fundraising campaign launched for the urgent conservation of the screen. Conservation of the screen is now nearing completion, and Daan will keep us informed about the progress of the work and any discoveries made in the meantime.
